After constantly talking about the Snyder Cut, the wonder woman 1984 trailer brings some joy into our lives. The sequel to the critical and commercial hit is releasing in summer 2020. but the trailer makes me want it now. right now!

The Fledgling DCEU Pre-Wonder Woman

The DC extended universe (DCEU) was Warner brothers and DC Comics’ attempt at chasing the shared cinematic universe model. Something that marvel Studios excelled at. The DC and marvel Comics rivalry bled out into theatres as WB tried to recreate the same magic.

However, the first few films received mixed responses, despite all performing admirably at the box office. man Of Steel, Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice and suicide Squad all made bank, but the critical reception was all over the place. There were hardcore fans of the films, while many thought the DCEU was fledgling.

How wonder woman saved The DCEU

Introduce Patty Jenkins’ wonder Woman, and all eyes fell on the Amazon as the savior of the DCEU. wonder woman had hope, an uplifting message and never before seen action sequences.

Not to mention representation. It was one of the very few times that a mainstream comic book movie featured a lead female superhero. and it was glorious. The representation of women as action stars was evident from the first few scenes of the movie. As audiences experienced Amazon warriors training for battle in ways not before seen on the screen.

The film made over $800 million worldwide and currently holds a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wonder woman 1984 Trailer Is incredibly Awe Inspiring

So the sequel of the DCEU messiah has to definitely up the ante, raise the stakes and provide a lot more wonder than the original. and it’s safe to say that the wonder woman 1984 trailer does just that.

Keep in mind, despite being an ‘official trailer’, this one features more as the ‘teaser trailer’ concept that we’re all used to now. In the sense that the wonder woman 1984 trailer doesn’t offer any revealing bits into its story, the character’s origins or any idea of the plot at all. It’s just scenes and dialogue from the movie, set to the incredible new Order’s Blue Monday, and it’s brilliant.

This is really what a trailer should be for; raising excitement levels, introducing us to the main players, with story beats that make us curious and humor that makes us smile and action that drops our jaws. and the wonder woman 1984 trailer has it all.

The Nostalgia Of The wonder woman 1984 Trailer

Obviously set in the ’80s, wonder woman 1984 has the era on full display with the hair, shoulder pads, and fanny packs. The music, along with the images truly catapult us into the ’80s, much like the Netflix original, stranger Things. With one key distinction.

Unlike stranger Things, wonder woman 1984 doesn’t rely on the nostalgia of the ’80s to sell itself. It provides an incredible look at the world of that time, without playing it for memories or throwing tribute to it. It uses the era as its setting with a straight face, without treating it as a novelty or throwback.

Gal Gadot with big hair, Chris pine rocking that fanny pack and Pedro Pascal’s smarmy 80’s stockbroker look do service to the setting, instead of feeling like props that stand out in it. It’s retro, but not for the sake of being retro, but more for being a straight-up period piece.

Breaking Down The wonder woman 1984 Trailer

As mentioned before, there’s not a lot of spoilers or reveals from the trailer for wonder woman 1984. Steve Trevor is mysteriously back after having sacrificed himself in 2017’s wonder Woman. Diana and Steve have, what looks like an emotional reunion, but the details as to how or why he’s back is still a mystery.

Pedro Pascal is the comic book villain Max Lord, but even his motivations are unknown to us from the trailer alone. We do get the humor of Steve Trevor being all of a sudden in the ’80s while being a guy from the ’30s. There are also, what looks like either flashback to Diana’s time in Themyscira, or maybe new sequences on the Amazon island that wonder woman left behind to save humanity. We also get very little of Kristen Wiig, who is supposed to be wonder Woman’s arch-nemesis, Cheetah.

The wonder woman 1984 creates anticipation, excitement and brings utter joy back into the lives of audiences with its visually stunning sequences.
